Resource Management

The Resources Screen may be used to view every resource discovered by ParkMyCloud: Auto Scaling Groups, Logical Groups, RDS Databases, and Instances. In the left navigational menu, there are five options for configuring how resources are displayed within the Resources ScreenAuto Scaling GroupsLogical Groups, RDS Databases, and/or Instances along with Parking Recommendations

Resources may be viewed all at once, individually by type, or in other combinations by using the checkboxes in the left navigational menu. You can also click on an individual item to view only that resource type within the Resources Screen. This screen can be viewed by any user who has been assigned the Super Admin, Team Lead, or Team Member roles. Resources displayed to users will depend on:

  1. Assigned Permissions (i.e. Role).
  2. The User's Assigned Team(s).
  3. Default Team assignment for credentials.
  4. Current selections in the left navigational menu.

Definition: A resource is anything that can be managed in ParkMyCloud by attaching schedules, detaching schedules, toggling states, etc.

Every user who has the appropriate permissions will see all three types of resources within the Resources Screen after logging into ParkMyCloud. Every feature for managing the parking of resources and generating cloud savings can be accessed here.

For example, after a few resources have been attached to a parking schedule, you will see the projected 30-day savings and current savings for the month, as shown below:

More information about the basic resource management features can be found throughout this page. Use the links below to look at a specific section:

Viewing Resources

By default, all resources will be displayed in the Resources Screen after successfully logging into ParkMyCloud for users who have been assigned the Super AdminTeam Lead or Team Member roles.

Displayed resources will depend on what quick filter tab has been chosen (All, Compute, Databases, Containers, Scale Groups, Logical Groups, AWS, Azure, GCP, and Alibaba).

Users who have been assigned the Purchasing Role will be directed to the Subscription Page rather than the Resources Screen.

To view a specific type of resource or provider, click on the appropriate quick filter tab. In the example below, the Scale Groups tab has been chosen in the Resources Screen.

The Right Dive > Icon indicates that additional information may be viewed for a resource. Click on a resource in the list to make the screen dive right to display additional details about the resource. This information will vary based on the type of resource (i.e. auto scaling group, logical group, RDS databases, or individual resource).

Within the Resource Details Screen, you are able to view detailed information about the chosen resource. For some resources, such as logical groups, additional options will be available.

Multiple tabs are provided on this screen and may be used to manage each resource. The following example shows the details for an individual resource in ParkMyCloud. When finished, click on the Back Button at the top left of the screen.

For more information, please see Viewing Resource Details.

Basic ParkMyCloud Features

For every resource type, you will see the same features including icons for viewing parking recommendations, additional resource details, tag information, and a search feature. This section provides a brief overview of the information seen after logging into ParkMyCloud.

At the top of the screen, you will find a Banner Message Area where you can read system-wide notifications including information about new releases, system maintenance, and other ParkMyCloud news. Use the X on the far right side of this area to close out the message or leave it for viewing at a later time.

A Help (Question Mark) IconFeedback Button (Callout)Alert Icon (Bell), and User Profile Menu (Account Name) can also be found in the top right of the screen below this message area.

The User Profile Menu may be used to sign out of the application, manage organizations settings (admins only), and to access user account specific functions for ParkMyCloud.

A Navigational Menu resides on the left side of the listed resources and can be used to access each feature of ParkMyCloud including teams, users, credentials, parking schedules, and subscription information. Click on of these options to view the information on the right portion of the screen.

A stats area can be found at the top of the screen and shows the following information based on current states, etc. of the selected resource types:

  • Total Number of Resources on the Page
  • Total Number of Recommended Resources on the Page
  • Total Number of Running Resources on the Page
  • Total Number of Scheduled Resources on the Page
  • Total Number of Suspended Schedules on the Page
  • Total Projected 30-day Savings
  • Total Actual Savings Month-to-Date
  • % Change in Actual Savings Month-to-Date (this month compared to the same time last month)

At the top right of Resources Screen, you will see a Search Field, which may be used to locate a specific resource (auto scaling, logical, databases, or instances). More information about this feature, can be found here: Using Resource Filters.

The Refresh option may be used to refresh the screen to reflect the most recent resource changes.

A drop-down menu and page options reside at the bottom of the Resources Screen. Use the drop-down menu to choose how many resources are displayed per page. Click on a page number to view a specific page.

Each resource will have three icons: Tag Icon, Resource Utilization Data Icon, and the Right Dive > Icon. Click on a resource within the Resources Screen to see additional information.

The Tag Icon will display information regarding the instance tags for the resource, including the Key and Value

The Resource Utilization Data Icon will appear blue when CloudWatch data is available for the resource and grayed out when it is not. Clicking on this icon will display the Instance Utilization Report pop-up window for the selected resource. For more information about this report, please see Viewing Instance Utilization Data.

Context Sensitive Toolbar

The toolbar above the listed resources is a Context Sensitive Toolbar that provides different options depending on what selections have been made within the Resources Screen. These options may be used to make changes to one or multiple resources at once.

When one or more resources are selected within the Bulk Column, additional options will appear in this toolbar. Provided options depend on what resource types have been selected in the left navigational panel and can include the following:

  • Schedule - Assign resource(s) to a schedule, override a schedule, or detach a schedule. This button may also be used to cancel an override and will be available unless the resource is unparkable.
  • Stop - Stop the currently selected resource(s). All selected resources must be currently running for this button to be available.
  • Start - Start the currently selected resource(s). All selected resources must be currently stopped for this button to be available.
  • Team - Move the selected resource(s) to a different team. This button is available any time resource is selected.
  • Group - Assign the selected resource(s) to a logical group. This button will only be available if the resources belong to the same provider (AWS, Azure, GCP, or Alibaba).

In the example below, two auto scaling groups have been selected with a status of "stopped". Therefore, the Stop and Group options are not available for the selected resources.

Resources can be moved from one team to another when a user has been assigned the Super Admin or Team Lead role. See Moving Resources to Teams for more information.
